Shoji Hamada - 40 Years On

Bernard Leach willow tree plate David Leach slipware dish Janet Leach vase

In 1920 Shoji Hamada came from Japan with Bernard Leach to establish the Leach Pottery in St. Ives. Hamada worked with Leach for 3 years before returning to Japan and establishing his own pottery in Mashiko.

This retrospective exhibition curated by Oxford Ceramics marks the 40th anniversity of Hamada's death. The exhibition was first shown in Oxford and has now moved down to the Leach Pottery. Some of the pots that sold in Oxford have travelled and are shown alongside pots that are available for sale.
